Corton Denham was probably settled in pre-Roman times, perhaps associated with the nearby Cadbury Castle Iron Age hill fort. The Domesday Survey recorded two settlements in the locality at Corfeton and Whitcombe. Corfeton came into the ownership of the French Dinham family in the 12th Century and was re-named Corton Denham in the 1540’s. The village formed part of the Portman Estate from 1610 until 1920.
